NAN’s First Deal

FIIX (Formerly known as Maintenance Assistant) Secures $12 Million Series B

Fiix announced that it has raised $12 million (USD) to bring maintenance teams from pen-and-paper systems to software solutions, helping to drive productivity gains in traditional blue-collar industries. This latest investment follows two years of exponential growth and is again being led by BuildGroup, an Austin-based private investment firm that led Fiix’s Series A in 2016.

NIAGARA ANGELS CLOSE DEAL WITH CUREXE

The Niagara Angels successfully closed an investment in Curexe as part of a $600,000 round. Curexe is an online platform that helps businesses exchange foreign currency and pay international suppliers and employees. The funds will provide Curexe 18 months of financing to reach 250 customers and be used for sales, marketing, design, and ongoing development.

Niagara Angels Meet with Mayor Diodati

Falls Mayor Diodati and Serge Felicetti, Director of Business Development to discuss the Titanic exhibition and support for more investors in Niagara Falls. The Mayor was very receptive and will be speaking to the Angel group in the near future. Once the Titanic project secures a location, NAN will be planning a special investor dinner in the tourist city to recruit new Angels into the group. “The Mayor and Economic Development Department were keenly aware of the need to get more Angels,” said Terry Kadwell, Executive Director. “The City will be assisting NAN by providing leads and contacts in the Angel asset class.”

Angels Meet in Toronto

The Niagara Angels recently met with Niagara The Niagara Angels were pleased to attend the May 23 Angel Investors Ontario event in Toronto, and heard pitches from 10 companies in follow-on rounds.
The Angel eco-system came together to enjoy a day of networking, speakers and meeting with like-minded investors. A special thanks to Juan Gonzalez, Ron Hurst, Keith Cumming, Brock Dickinson and Albert Iannantuono for representing our group.

        
 


INVESTMENT MEETING RECAP

Mayor Walter Sendzik, City of St. Catharines joined us to mark our $12 million milestone. The Mayor reflected on how the group began and highlighted the success we have achieved. He continues to be a great champion of the Niagara Angel Network.

Rene Bergeron, Collector for the Titanic display also joined the meeting showcasing artifacts from the doomed vessel. It was reported that once a location is secured, the Niagara Angels will help coordinate a $3M round for the attractions. The story was covered on the front page of the St. Catharines Standard, Niagara Falls Review and Welland Tribune.

There were two companies pitching for capital – Curexe and Aerial Vehicle Safety Solutions (AVSS). The former received an investment from the Niagara Angels.

Terry Kadwell recently met with Jack McGowan, Executive Director of the Buffalo Angels. The two explored ways to improve cross border opportunities. Buffalo has agreed to entertain deal flow from Niagara-based companies.
